Frequently asked questions regarding our videography service:
1. How have you been trained?
I learned my basic skills while earning a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Telecommunications from Michigan State University, completed in 1987. In the mid 1990's I started my video business as a side job in addition to my job as an audio visual technician. In 2000 I pursued video production as a full time business. Since that time the company has grown significantly based solely on the referrals of previous clients and networking with other photo and video professionals.
2. Are you and your equipment inconspicuous when you are shooting?
Most people remark that they did not notice I was there and are surprised by the extensive coverage. Others, through their observations of my work habits, have stated with appreciation the efforts I make to cover the event fully and completely. My videos are in a style of documenting, not directing. For live events there will never be any staging or recreating of scenes. My goal is to completely capture the event on video as it unfolds.
3. Do you use lighting?
Sometimes it is necessary to use a small, on-camera light during an event because of low lighting situations. Other times, like during an interview situation or something similar, we will try to set up lighting for a better quality video. For events such as plays, talent shows, etc, we will not set up extra lighting.
4. Is your equipment professional and up to date?
The cameras used are small, professional, three-chip digital video cameras. The footage is artistically blended in a computer based editing suite. The edited master is then recorded in the fully digital DVŠ format, which insures that your final product--- VHS tapes and DVDs---were as if it was a master copy. Some of our footage has been shown on telelvision.
5. What if there are equipment malfunctions?
Stuff happens! Generally we never experience any malfunction, but that is not to say it won't happen. After all, we are talking electronics! Should a camera or any other piece of equipment malfunction during a video shoot, we will deal with it accordingly, and if there are moments or a part of the event that cannot be caputured on tape because of equipment failure, we will compensate you accordingly, such as additional free copies of the final product or a partial refund just as an example.
6. Will you be professional in your appearance?
Always. We dress according to what the event is. We've done everythign from a suit to a nice pair of slacks and a button down shirt to blue jeans and a t-shirt. Just let us know the requirements, and we will be happy to dress accordingly.
7. What all do you tape?
Our slogan is "What else do you want on video?" We tape all sorts of things including seminars, parties, graduations, plays, and any type of special occasion. If you need it on video, we can probably do it. For complete listings and prices, please see our Services page.
8. Do you interview guests at wedding receptions?
We will always try to interview guests. If interviews are not requested, they will not be done. Many people to not like to be on video and we try to be sensitive to that. We will not push for an interview if someone does not want to give one. For those who do wish to say something on camera, we will be glad to record them.
9. Do you require a retaining fee for your services?
We are flexible on this. If you desire to put a certain amount down and pay for the remainder at a later date, you are free to do so. We have found that if everything is paid for by the event date or before, then that is just one less thing you have to worry about. Payment must be received in full before you receive the final product.
10. Can we select music for you to use in the editing process?
Yes. Since it is your video, we want to make it to your satisfaction, and that includes incorporating whatever music you want edited into the final tape. You can get the music to us at any time before or after the event, as long as we have it when we are ready to edit.
11. What about photo collages for weddings?
Photo collages are usually treated as a separate project from a wedding video, and require several weeks before the actual wedding to assemble and edit. For more details, please see Photo Collages in the Services section.
12. How soon can we expect to receive our edited tape(s) and DVD(s)?
One thing a lot of people may not realize is how long editing takes. Just because something was shot in a two or three hour time period doesn't mean it will be edited just as quickly. On the average it's about 4 hrs of editing for every 1 hr of video shot. Because of this and the number of projects we shoot, we average up to a 3 month turn-around for getting your video to you. Only on a rare occasion will it be longer than that. Sometimes, we can have it to you sooner than 3 months. We have found, too, that putting a rush on a project sometimes has the potential to stifle the creativity. Based on comments of past clients, your patience will be greatly rewarded.
13. How long will the edited tape be?
For weddings, edited tapes can range from 45 minutes to upwards of 2 hours depending on the length of the ceremony and the amount of peripheral activity. For other events, it just depends on how much footage was shot and what kind of an event it was, be it a birthday party, a play, a seminar, etc.
14. Will you attend a wedding rehearsal?
If we get the chance, we will attend the rehearsal. Sometimes that is not always possible, especially during the busy seasons of the year when we have other video shoots booked. Nevertheless, we will work with you to choose the best angles possible to cover the service. We have taped several weddings where we either could not make the rehearsal, or the couple said that we did not have to be there. If you request us to be at the rehearsal, we will make every effort to be there.
